La representación de la muerte en narraciones autorreferenciales fotográficas de enfermedad contemporáneas

Abstract

En los últimos años se han generado numerosas narraciones visuales autorreferenciales de las enfermedades terminales o degenerativas que terminan habitualmente con la muerte. Este texto pretende abordar, dentro del contexto doméstico o cercano, la representación fotográfica de la muerte en enfermedades como el cáncer, el SIDA o las demencias seniles, tanto si es anticipada en las últimas fases de la enfermedad como si es capturada tras finalizarse la vida del paciente. La intención es comparar entre diferentes enfermedades cómo se representa la muerte y si pueden establecerse coincidencias o diferencias dentro de las mismas enfermedades, por tipologías de autor o entre diferentes medios, online y offline. Resulta especialmente interesante abordar el análisis de este tipo de representaciones visuales de la muerte teniendo en cuenta la posibilidad de la existencia de un duelo anticipado antes de la muerte real del paciente.

In recent years, numerous self-referential visual narratives of terminal or degenerative diseases that usually end with death have been generated. This text aims to address the photographic representation of death in diseases such as cancer, AIDS or senile dementia, whether it is anticipated in the images of the final stages of the disease and/or if it is photographed after the death of the patient inside the domestic or intimate sphere. The intention is to compare how death is represented between different diseases and to analyze if it is possible to find any similarities and differences within the diseases, by type of author or between different media, online and offline. It is particularly interesting to approach the analysis of such visual representations of death considering the possibility of the existence of an anticipatory grief before the real death of the patient.
