Abstract
Zamora y Salamanca no parecen responder a las políticas europeas y regionales de integración e inversión
pública sobre sus áreas de frontera, buscando estabilidad demográfica, incremento y mejora económica.
La absorción de las distintas partidas económicas de los Fondos de Desarrollo Regional, las inversiones
en infraestructuras básicas y de comunicaciones y el resto de aportaciones económicas no han sido
revulsivos suficientes. Zamora y Salamanca continúan perdiendo población y caracterizándose por un
envejecimiento progresivo.
¿Por qué no cambian los parámetros demográficos, la cohesión territorial, los niveles de renta? ¿La
posición de aparente privilegio junto a la frontera con Portugal resulta, al final, una característica
negativa? ¿Podemos hablar de un efecto-frontera contrario a lo que debería ser, un estímulo?
