The Art in Motion Project is a Barcelona-based art rental platform that connects underrepresented
artists with the spaces where everyday life unfolds. Conceived as a cultural and social enterprise, it links
migrant, international, disabled, and neurodivergent artists with coworking hubs, corporate offices,
boutique hotels, restaurants, clubs, and cultural venues that want their environments to express values of
diversity, inclusion, and creativity.
Emerging from Barcelona’s specific context, a dense network of coworking spaces and hotels, a highly
diverse population, and strong ESG/CSR agendas, the project responds to a double gap: professional
and hospitality environments still rely on generic, mass‑produced decoration that ignores the city’s
cultural reality, while many artists from underrepresented communities remain excluded from
conventional galleries and commercial circuits. The Art in Motion Project is designed as the missing
infrastructure between these two worlds.
The core concept treats art as an ongoing social infrastructure rather than static ownership. The project
offers curated selections tailored to each client’s brand and spatial context, manages logistics, framing,
and professional installation, and renews artworks through scheduled rotations that keep spaces
dynamic over time. This subscription‑based model combines artwork rental fees with service fees,
generating recurring revenue for the platform and transparent income for participating artists, while
giving clients a flexible solution that adapts to new narratives and audiences.
Strategically, the project positions itself in the mid‑premium B2B segment: more accessible and
human‑centred than large global art platforms, yet more curated and impact‑driven than generic
decoration or low‑cost rental services. The initial focus is in Barcelona, using its innovation districts and
cultural hubs as a testbed for pilots with coworking spaces and boutique hospitality. Over the first three
years, the roadmap moves through three phases: credibility and validation, proof of concept with
measurable cultural and social impact, and business consolidation and expansion towards geographic
growth.
Operationally, it follows a lean management model that combines a small core team, focused on
curation, partnerships, communication, and impact measurement, with strategic outsourcing of logistics
and technical services. Clear legal frameworks, transparent artist agreements, and risk‑management
measures support the transition from a project to a scalable social enterprise, with financial projections
anticipating a growing portfolio of B2B clients, diversified income streams, and decreasing reliance on
grants as subscription revenues increase.
Ultimately, The Art in Motion Project aims to change how art circulates in the city and who benefits from
that circulation. By transforming walls into carriers of stories and commitments, it offers organisations a
tangible way to embody their values and provides underrepresented artists with a visible, fairly paid,
recurring presence in the everyday spaces where life actually happens.
