El cicle de santa Maria Magdalena al claustre gòtic de la catedral de Vic

Abstract

El claustre gòtic de la catedral de Sant Pere de Vic presenta un cicle de catorze capitells dedicat a santa Maria Magdalena. Es tracta d’un dels programes més extensos conservats a Europa de la llegenda del miracle provençal. L’elecció de la iconografia s’ha de posar en relació amb el culte a Maria Magdalena a la catedral, la fundació del seu altar i les celebracions litúrgiques de la Setmana Santa, amb els drames de la Visitatio Sepulcri i el Peregrinus, i amb la presència a la mateixa seu de textos que recollien la vida i el trànsit de la santa.

The gothic cloister of the cathedral of Sant Pere de Vic presents a cycle of fourteen capitals dedicated to santa Maria Magdalena. It is one of the most extensive programs conserved in Europe of the legend of the Provencal miracle. The choice of iconography must be related to the cult of Mary Magdalene in the cathedral: the foundation of her altar, the liturgical celebrations of Holy Week with the dramas of Visitatio Sepulcri and Pelegrinus, and with the presence in the cathedral of texts that included the life and the death of the saint.
