Abstract
anchura a nivel oclusal.
The objective of this study is to assess the three-dimensional changes experienced by the
maxilla after segmented LeFort I osteotomy1. This includes changes in segment torsion, stability, and
effects on cranial position following the surgery.
Material and Method: A sample of 30 patients who underwent orthognathic surgery with segmented
LeFort 1 was used1. All patients had CBCT scans performed at T0, T1, T2, and T3, corresponding to
baseline, pre-surgery, post-surgery, and post-surgery with more than 1 year of follow-up1. A systematic
literature review was conducted for the bibliographic analysis.
Results: The sample consists of 19 women and 11 men. The ages ranged between 17 and 37 years, with a
mean age of 23.5 ± 5.42. The assessment of inter- and intra-observer agreement was high. The study of
torsion at the molar level showed average changes of 2o at T1. Stability is presented at T2 and T3 during
the follow-up period. There were no modifications in width at the occlusal level. In the study of anterior
segment inclination, values close to the norm are achieved from T0 to T2, remaining stable at T3. The
analyzed patients present a difference between the Frankfurt plane and the true horizontal at baseline
of 4o. There was a statistically significant change between T0 and T3 for this difference.
Conclusions: Segmented maxillary surgery produces changes in the torsion of the posterior sectors. It
maintains the inclination of the anterior segment. No significant changes occur in width at the occlusal
level. The cranio-vertebral relationship modifies its position through adaptation during the follow-up
period.
