La consagración literaria póstuma a través de necrológicas de los pares: Carlos Pujol, de la invisibilidad a la palestra

Abstract

Para dilucidar si las necrológicas pueden tener una función consagradora en el ámbito literario –y no de mera certificación de una consagración lograda en vida–, se analizan las treinta y cuatro necrológicas dedicadas a Carlos Pujol (Barcelona, 1936-2012), escritor, crítico y traductor cuyo fallecimiento tuvo un impacto mediático inopinado dada su falta de notoriedad en vida. Pujol fue reivindicado en un aluvión de necrológicas firmadas por sus pares, que renuncian a la neutralidad propia de este género textual y esgrimen su legitimidad para consagrarlo y forjar su imagen póstuma. La estrategia argumental de estas necrológicas requiere justificar que no lograra notoriedad en vida y señalar el valor de su legado, lo cual lleva a recalcar la coherencia entre la imagen de autor forjada por Pujol y su poética de la ocultación y revelación del yo, así como la autenticidad de su vocación literaria.

To elucidate whether obituaries can have a consecrating function in the literary field–and not merely the certification of a consecration achieved in life–, we analyse the thirty-four obituaries devoted to Carlos Pujol (Barcelona, 1936-2012), a writer, critic and translator whose death had an unexpected media impact given his lack of notoriety during his lifetime. Pujol was vindicated in a flood of obituaries signed by his peers, who renounce the neutrality inherent to this textual genre and wield its legitimacy to consecrate him and forge his posthumous image. The argumentative strategy of these obituaries requires to justify the fact that he did not achieve notoriety during his lifetime and to point out the value of his legacy, which leads them to stress the coherence between Pujol’s self image and his poetics of the hiding and revelation of the self, as well as the authenticity of his literary vocation
