Sokolowski, Popper and Chomsky agree on the thesis that the human being is the only animal that uses a syntactically articulated language. In this arti-cle I will present their respective positions on the similarities and differences between animal language and human language. I will also indicate points of agreement and discrepancy between their positions. I will compare the four func-tions of language according to Popper with the four levels of human language according to Sokolowski. I will delve into the anthropological consequences that can be deduced from the human being having a syntactically articulated lan-guage, as set forth by Sokolowski. And finally, I will contrast the positions of Chomsky and Sokolowski on the origin of human language. The discrepancies between these authors should not obscure their common position: syntactically articulated language is a discontinuous difference between animal language and human language.en
