seguretat clínica i generen importants costos afegits. Per tant conèixer quines
cures d’infermeria poden disminuir aquestes infeccions i promoure-les, pot ser
de gran interès per les institucions sanitàries.
Catheter-Associated Urinay Tract Infection (CAUTI) is the most
frequent nosocomial infection (NI) in the Intensive Care Units (ICU). CAUTI have
important effects such as blood stream infection, increased lengh of stay and
hight costs. It is suggested that securing urinary catheters can contribut in
dicreasing CAUTI.
Purpouse: To asses the impact of securing urinary catheters in preventing
CAUTI in Critically Ill Patients
Methods: Prospective, quasi experimental study with a control group pre
intervention and an experimental grup. CAUTI will be monitored in both groups.
The study will take place at Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya. The
sample will have 173 patients for every group, admited in the Intensive Care Unit.
Data will be tabulated and analyzed using SPPS 21.0v for Windows. In addition
to a descriptive analysis, T Test and Chi Square tests will be used. Mann-Whitney
and multiple lineal regression analysis also will be performed.
Implications for the practice: Correct management of medical devices is very
important for avoiding NI. NI are directly related with quality and safety. To know
what nursing interventions can contribute to minimize NI and promote them, is
really interesting for health care institutions.
