Conocimiento y uso del protector bucal en deportes de riesgo en niños catalanes entre 6 y 18 años

Los traumatismos dentales son situaciones que suceden frecuentemente. Según los datos estadísticos de diversos estudios, se revelan cifras considerablemente significativas en cuanto a la incidencia y prevalencia de estos accidentes; por lo tanto, se han llegado a considerar como un problema de salud pública global (1-3). Hoy en día los traumatismos dentales son la segunda causa de atención odontopediátrica, tras las caries. En un futuro muy cercano, la incidencia de las lesiones traumáticas supondría la principal demanda de atención (1-3). En niños en edad de preescolar, las lesiones que no son a nivel oral suelen ser en la cabeza y en la cara, las cuales representan hasta un 40% de todas las lesiones somáticas (3-5). Las situaciones de emergencia por lo tanto, presentan un desafío para los médicos de todo el mundo. Se reconoce que las lesiones de los niños son una amenaza importante para la salud infantil y que se descuidan los problemas de salud pública
